Why Your Cornish Business Isn't Showing on Google Maps (and How to Fix It)
3 October 2026 · Lee Searle, Penzance
Customers searching "plumber near me" in Truro should find you. Here's why they often don't — and the free fixes that change it.
If someone in Camborne types "electrician near me" and you don't appear in the map pack, you're invisible to the people most ready to book. The good news: most of the reasons are fixable in an afternoon.
1. You haven't claimed your Google Business Profile
It's free. Search your business name, claim it, and verify it. Until you do, Google is guessing — and often guessing wrong.
2. Your details don't match everywhere
Your name, address and phone number should be identical on your website, your profile, Facebook and any directories. "St Ives Rd" on one and "St. Ives Road" on another is enough to muddy things.
3. No reviews, or old ones
Google trusts businesses that real people talk about. Ask every happy customer — a QR code on the van or the counter makes it painless.
4. Your website doesn't say where you work
A site that never mentions Penzance, Hayle or Helston gives Google nothing to match. Name your towns naturally, and give your main areas their own page.
5. Wrong category
"Contractor" is vague. "Roofing contractor" wins. Pick the most specific primary category you can.
The short version
